Performs standard and advanced neurophysiologic procedures (EEG, EMG, NCS, and EP) on outpatient and inpatients. Performs quality recordings by collecting pertinent patient history information, properly preparing the patient using age-specific criteria, conducting the examination, and preparing the recording for physician interpretation. Informs physician of changes in the patient’s condition or abnormalities on the recording. Maintains supplies and equipment for patient care. Actively supports and participates in department and hospital quality improvement initiatives as directed. Serves as a resource for other physiology technicians, nurses, students, patients, and physicians. Responsible for training and educational development of new and current physiology staff. Communicates with manager of problems or potential problems. Ensures proper diagnostic and diagnosis coding is used for accurate billing.
Associates Degree required. Credential in electroencephalography by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, Inc. (ABRET) (R. EGG T) preferred. Minimum one (1) year experience in the performance of EEG procedures in a patient care environment required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. Certification in Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring (CNIM) and experience performing 12-lead electrocardiograms preferred.
