    Position Overview: 

    Manages, supervises and coordinates the operations of a specific hospital unit(s) as noted above, by performing the following duties personally or through delegation to subordinate supervisors.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Selects, schedules, assigns and evaluates staff, adjusting hours and shifts as necessary to meet hospital needs.
    2. Orients new staff and assures that training and education needs of entire staff are met.
    3. Evaluates activities of unit to ensure effective patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service.
    4. Observes nursing care and conducts rounding patient visits to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed and treatment is administered in accordance with physician instructions.
    5. Develops, implements and evaluates unit policies, goals and objectives.
    6. Participates in the development and modification of unit programs and initiatives.
    7. Responsible for unit budget including HPPD, salaries and wages, overtime, and supplies.
    8. Promotes infection control practices and policies.
    9. Collaborates with discharge planning, utilization review and case management.
    10. Identifies quality improvement initiatives and analysis.
    11. Interprets and enforces department and institution policies.
    12. Participates in appropriate department and hospital committees.
    13. In collaboration with EVS, inspects rooms for cleanliness and comfort.
    14. Nursing staff development through coaching and evaluation.
    15. Timely investigation and resolution of incidents through the incident reporting system.
    16. Responsible for investigation and disciplinary action as needed.
    17. Investigates and resolves complaint or refers unusual problem to superior.
    18. Performs other duties as assigned

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

     This job has supervisory responsibilities for all nursing staff (RN/Tech), and Unit Secretaries




    • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
    • Current CA Registered Nurse License
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
    • Minimum three (3) year’s Nurse Manager experience in an acute care setting


    • Master’s degree in a health related field
